Celebrations, Events & Extravaganzas

Celebrations, Events & Extravaganzas capture live activities and, in the case of the masked ball, borrow from the Italian masquerade and carnival culture, a prominent part of Venetian masquerade balls that emerged from the improvisational Italian theater of the 16th-century, known as Commedia dell'arte. Each image is an opportunity to tell a story, factual or fictitious, that transcends life where each viewer becomes an author who extends the narrative.

All the world’s a stage, / And all the men and women merely players; / They have their exits and their entrances; / And one man in his time plays many parts, / His acts being seven ages.
— William Shakespeare, “As You Like it”
