Characters In Search of a Story

Characters In Search of a Story borrows from Luigi Pirandello's 1921 play, Six Characters in Search of an Author, an experimental work that explores the relationship between reality and fiction, and the nature of art and reality. There is an enigmatic, sustained, and undefined sense about these works that I find intriguing and open to interpretation. The ambiguous nature and anonymity of the characters allows the viewer to serve as author simply by providing a narrative. However, by refusing to provide a narrative, the characters still exist and live private lives as with the majority of people we encounter on a daily basis.

Whoever has the luck to be born a character can laugh even at death. Because a character will never die! A man will die, a writer, the instrument of creation: but what he has created will never die!
— Luigi Pirandello
