Reliquaries
A reliquary is a sacred vessel or container designed to hold religious relics, such as the bones, clothing, or other personal items of saints or holy figures. Although symbolic, my reliquaries are containers capable of holding cremains. The three-dimensional house-like form is constructed after the cross shape of the traditional Christian Church. Though, not specifically religious in intent, I call these Reliquaries which, by holding corporeal objects and memories, they provide a tangible connection between the terrestrial and the spiritual.
These Reliquaries are featured in a cabinet of curiosities (also known as wonder-rooms that house encyclopedic collections of objects whose categorical boundaries are yet to be defined) in which I often display my Reliquaries with their open-ended narratives that are also open to interpretation.
